Abstract This paper starts with reviewing the studies on the two most typical EMRs in China:the Yangtse River Delta and Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau EMRs concerning delimitation,spatial structure and forces and mechanism. Based on such analysis,the author probes into the forces and mechanism for the formation of typical Chinese EMR from both historical and modern perspectives,and an initial framework for analyzing the forming mechanism of the typical Chinese EMRs is presented.
